Robbie Heathcote raring to fight for Brisbane trainers' premiership title!

Trainer Robbie Heathcote is determined to fight on as he tries to catch leading trainer Barry Baldwin in the race to win the Brisbane trainers' premiership.

Baldwin has already won the Brisbane premiership once, and has a five-win lead over Heathcote with six meetings of the season remaining.

Robbie Heathcote and Barry Baldwin will be clashing at Doomben Race Track this Saturday. Heathcote has six runners entered for Doomben Race Track and says that this two best entries are Alioop (to run in the 1,200-metre Mask Handicap) and Benallen (scheduled to run in the 1,110-metre City Pacific Finance Handicap.

For his part, Baldwin has five entries at Doomben Race Track this Saturday and counts Burdekin Blues (to run in the 1,200-metre Cadbury Confectionary Handicap) as his best pick.

Heathcote is going for his first title since his decision to quit as a European tour guide to take up training 11 years ago.

"I've been in the top 10 trainers in Brisbane every year since I gave away being a tour manager," Heathcote said.

"Realistically, I doubt I can beat Barry Baldwin but I'll keep fighting to the line.

"I've got great respect for Barry as a trainer and he's got a big lead and I haven't got too many chances to catch up at Doomben on Saturday. "But I've got a few good chances to come after this weekend and there's still plenty of time left in the season to peg him back." Although Heathcote gives himself little hope of claiming his first premiership this season, he's confident his battle with Baldwin will go down to the wire.
