Jockey Jim Byrne on track to preserve Brisbane premiership lead!
Jockey Jim Byrne is expected to restart adding to his Brisbane premiership tally and keep his one-win lead over his rival Glenn Colless when he sees action on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Eagle Farm Race Track.
Jim Byrne has just passed a fitness test that gives him the green light to resume building on his tally.
Byrne recently met with injury and this forced him to miss several assignments at Eagle Farm Race Track on Saturday that would have enabled him to run away from his rivals.
Byrne currently has 43 wins. He re-injured strained stomach muscles at Caloundra Race Track last Friday that he first hurt last month.
"I tore my stomach muscles a few weeks ago but I hurt them again when a horse I rode at Caloundra last Friday suddenly did a U-turn on the way to the barriers," Byrne said.
His close rival Colless is currently on holiday but will be returning for the last meeting of the Eagle Farm Race Track season.
Byrne has been runner-up to Stathi Katsidis and Colless in the jockeys' title for the past two seasons.
Byrne is up for five rides on Wednesday and his best chance appears to be in the Lyndhurst Stud Handicap where he'll be astride Davion.
"There was just a little tingle there this morning but I wasn't on any painkillers so I'll be 100 per cent tomorrow." |
