Zarita starts preparations for Caulfield and Melbourne Cups!
Dual classic winner Zarita has started preparations for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups at trainer Pat Hyland's property in Cranbourne.
Hyland said he was unconcerned about any burn-out factor with Zarita who had only six weeks off after winning four of her six starts at Group level over a three month period in the autumn.
Zarita spelled on Hyland's property and came back in to work this week. Hyland said she had returned fresh and noticeably bigger.
Zarita hasn't raced since training off and finishing eighth to Heavenly Glow in the AJC Australian Oaks at Randwick Racecourse on April 30.
She previously strung together Group Two wins in the Angus Armanasco Stakes (1600m) and Kewney States (1600m) as well as Group One victories in the Australasian Oaks (2000m) and South Australian Derby (2500m).
"She has got it all ahead of her now and it is a matter of whether she is good enough," Hyland said.
Zarita is by Pentire from Defensive Play mare Gin Player and has won seven of her 12 starts with her victories ranging from 1012 metres to 2500.
She is currently a $41 chance with corporate bookmakers for the Caulfield Cup with champion three-year-old Weekend Hussler the $8.50 favourite. |
