Red Lord, Zavite seen to spearhead Cummings campaign in Melbourne Cup!
Red Lord and Zavite, two of Bart Cumming's promising stayers, are being primed to spearhead his campaign in the Melbourne Cup at Flemington Race Track this year. Cumming's is aiming for win number 12 this year and he will be counting on his son Anthony to do the job for him.
Anthony Cummings believes both Red Lord and Zavite are ready to step up and make their mark at Flemington Race Track later this year.
Zavite narrowly missed a start in the 2007 Melbourne Cup when he was second in the Winning Edge and again in the Geelong Cup.
Zavite was victorious in the Queen Elizabeth (2,520m) on the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington Race Track, the same race in which Makybe Diva showed her potential a year before her first Cup.
Zavite was unplaced in his only autumn start. He was sent back to the spelling paddock and was also gelded.
Meanwhile, Red Lord won the Lavazza Long Black (2,800m) at Flemington Race Track on Melbourne Cup day last year. It was a race generally regarded as a consolation race for those horses who don't make it to the Melbourne Cup.
"Red Lord will race in Sydney and be aimed at races like the Metropolitan Handicap before he goes to Melbourne ," Cummings said.
Red Lord had a six-start autumn campaign winning the Parramatta Cup (2,000m) and ending fifth in the Sydney Cup.
"Both horses are now ready to step up and be stayers this spring." Cummings added. |
