Bullecourt, Shrogginet redeem selves at Moonee Valley!
Bullecourt and Shrogginet, both fallen riders at the Grand National Hurdle on June 28th, redeemed themselves on Saturday with wins at Moonee Valley Race Track.
Bullecourt was seemingly unaffected by his fall at Flemington Race Track two weeks ago by winning by seven lengths in the Bob Barr Smith Hurdle at Moonee Valley Race Track.
Meanwhile, Shrogginet eked out a hard-fought victory over Grand National Hurdle placegetter Frenzilian in the Ian Macdonald Steeplechase, also at Moonee Valley Race Track.
The Grand National Hurdle was in the headlines two weeks ago when two horses died and another seven in the 13-horse field failed to complete the 4,350-metre course at Flemington on June 28.
Craig Durden, who rode the Tom Hughes-trained Shrogginet, said it was pleasing to see the jumps winners rebound so well from the National.
He described the Macdonald Steeplechase as "a sensational race" and added that it was "something that everyone wants to see".
"I think the game, with the quality horses coming into it, has gone forward.
"We do have to have a review and we have got to make a few changes but I think you have got to look at jumps racing overall."
State racing minister Rob Hulls called for the review to be fast-tracked and on his desk by the middle of next month.
Hulls said he would consult with relevant stakeholders in jumps racing himself before making a decision on the review before the end of the year.
"RVL is being proactive which is great and hopefully we can keep working forward together," Durden said. |
