Nuclear Sky wins Winter Cup at Rosehill!
Nuclear Sky captured the Winter Cup on Saturday at Rosehill Race Track, thus nudging jockey Blake Shinn even closer to claiming the Sydney jockeys' premiership.
The Winter Cup proved to be a nail-biting affair at Rosehill Race Track even though the field consisted only of nine horses.
The favourite Get Up Jude executed a mid-race challenge to outside leader For Cruyff's Sake. That move set off a furious exchange in the lead position. However, Nuclear Sky under Blake Shinn was a bit cautious and elected not to engage in the brouhaha for the lead.
Then, Shinn summoned Nuclear Sky to make his move toward the finish. Nuclear Sky steamed down the outside and arrived home just in time to defeat Bopalula, who had surged through the centre of the track, with Get Up Jude kicking strongly on the rails.
Just a nose separated Nuclear Sky and Bopalula on the line. Get Up Jude was a neck back third.
The victory at the Winter Cup added to Shinn's luster. The event at Rosehill Race Track on Saturday gave him a race-to-race double after Kenny's World prevailed in the Harris Farm Hcp (1,200 metres).
His wins followed a treble at Rosehill Race Track last weekend and another victory at the Australian Jockey Club meeting at Newcastle Race Track on Wednesday and took him to 72 wins this season, five ahead of Nash Rawiller who also found himself in the winner's circle on Saturday aboard Enzedex Eagle.
"It was great to win for Jack Denham and great to win this race on this horse." said Shinn. |
