Jockey Robert Thompson aims for record at Taree Racecourse!
Jockey Robert Thompson takes part in the races at Taree Racecourse on Tuesday, with just one win short of the Australian riding record. There will thus be added pressure on Thompson as all eyes will be on him.
Thompson's lifetime score is now 3,321 and his last win came at Grafton where he was victorious in the featured MacLean Cup astride Victory Charm.
Robert Thompson's first assignment at Taree Racecourse is on board the Ross Stitt-trained Chasing Chimes in a 1,412-metre maiden event. Stitt is also the part-owner and former trainer of Heavenly Glow, a steed whom Thompson rode enroute to two Group One victories during the autumn.
The current riding record is currently held by the late Jack Thompson who was no relation to Robert Thompson.
Robert Thompson is one of the most popular jockeys in New South Wales, and lives in Cessnock, a town in Hunter Valley.
In January of 2004, Thompson broke his ankle in a fall at Warwick Farm Racecourse and was sidelined for two years. He made a comeback when he won aboard Precise Timing in the Launceston Cup. |
