The Foremost Name in Canadian Horseracing!
Woodbine Race Track in Toronto, Ontario, is undoubtedly Canada's premier racecourse. It has three tracks that feature both thoroughbred and standardbred racing and is in fact, the only North American racetrack that offers both types of horse racing on the same day.
Woodbine Race Track's prominence in the Canadian horse racing scene is bolstered by its annual hosting of huge track meets like the $1 million Queen's Plate, North America's oldest continuously run stakes race; the $1 million ATTO Mile and the $1.5 million Canadian International. Woodbine Race Track is also the proud home of the Breeders Stakes, the third big event in Canada's Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.
The major harness racing events at Woodbine Race Track are the North America Cup, Metro Pace, Canadian Pacing Derby and the Maple Leaf Trot.
Woodbine Race Track's grounds occupy 650 acres of land in the northwestern outskirts of Toronto. It has a total seating capacity of 12,000. It has 21 barns and has a stabling capacity of 1,860 stalls.
The first thoroughbred race at Woodbine Race Track was held on the track's opening day of June 12, 1956. The first harness race was held on January 1, 1994. The largest attendance for thoroughbred racing ever recorded at Woodbine Race Track was 42,243 while that for harness racing was 7,266.
