Juliet's Spirit wins Ontario Debutante!
Juliet's Spirit triumphed in the $142,795 Ontario Debutante Stakes on Saturday ( 16 August 2008 ) at Woodbine Race Track Polytrack. She finished the task in a time of 1:10.17.
Leading rider Jim McAleney was astride Juliet's Spirit as she opened the race with a brisk stalking game. Fanci Candi was the sprightly pacesetter as she set ¼-mile splits of :21.82 and :44.54 even as Juliet's Spirit patiently sat in third.
Juliet's Spirit went into assault mode at the top of the stretch and seized the lead. A determined After The Applause challenged Juliet's Spirit in the closing stages of the Woodbine Race Track extravaganza but to no avail. C Karma under David Clark came in third.
Juliet's Spirit paid $5.40, $3.50 and $2.50 for her Ontario Debutante victory. After The Applause returned $7 and $3.80 while C Karma paid $4 to show.

Her Woodbine Race Track win boosted her total career earnings to $209,358.
Trained by Steve Asmussen, Juliet's Spirit now has back-to-back stakes scores, having won the five-furlong My Dear Stakes on June 30, also at Woodbine Race Track.
Jockey McAleney, who has ridden Juliet's Spirit in all of her races, said Juliet's Spirit was more aggressive than usual in the early stages. He said she was also "more ambitious" than in her previous race and that attitude might have eventually given her the victory. |
