Marlang is Gus Schickendanz's second Breeders Stakes winner. His Wando won the race in 2003. For her part, trainer Debbie England became the second female trainer to win a Breeders Stakes, after Catherine Day Phillips. And jockey Richard Dos Ramos scored his second Breeders Stakes win 22 years after his first one astride Carotene.
Marlang was fresh off a third-place finish as the favorite in the turf Toronto Cup Stakes on July 12, hence there was a bit of apprehension over his performance in the Breeders Stakes.
