Good Ba Ba is Hong Kong Horse of the Year!
Good Ba Ba, a four-time group I winner this season, has been crowned Horse of the Year in Hong Kong. In addition, Good Ba Ba was also given the award for ‘Champion Miler' as well as ‘Most Popular Horse of the Year'.
Good Ba Ba was honoured at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Champion Awards presentation ceremony held on July 1.
Meanwhile, Douglas Whyte was honoured as the ‘Champion Jockey' and ‘Most Popular Jockey'.
The ‘Champion Middle-Distance' and ‘Champion Stayer' awards were given to Viva Pataca. Sacred Kingdom was awarded the ‘Champion Sprinter' distinction while Ichiban was given the ‘Champion Griffin' award.
Sight Winner was honoured as ‘Most Improved Horse'.
The Champion Awards judging panel also voted to present the lifetime achievement award to Vengeance of Rain, Horse of the Year for the 2006-07 season, in recognition of his great contribution to Hong Kong racing.
Meanwhile, trainer John Size, jockey Douglas Whyte, and apprentice rider Marco K L Chui hold big leads in their respective categories.
Hong Kong horse racing fans cast a record total of 312,815 votes to decide the most popular horse and most popular jockey of the year.
The champion awards are organized by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, with the Association of Hong Kong Racing Journalists as co-organizer and the Hong Kong Racehorse Owners Association as honorary adviser.
The awards have been organised to recognize excellence in Hong Kong horse racing. |
