Free Agent, a horse of the Queen's, won the Chesham Stakes on Saturday at Ascot Race Track. The victory by Free Agent has thus broken Her Majesty's decade-long lack of wins at Ascot Race Track.
Held up in the rear by jockey Richard Hughes early on, Free Agent shot up from last to first to win by 2¼ th lengths from Seaway. Free Agent is stabled with royal trainer, Richard Hannon.
Free Agent is now unbeaten in two starts and is poised to give the Queen her first ever Derby victory at Epsom Downs Race Track next June.
The Queen, who loves horse racing, was at Ascot Race Track to see the two-year-old colt triumph in the seven-furlong contest.
"The Queen was absolutely thrilled and after they passed the post she said 'I've done it!' which was great.", said John Warren, the royal bloodstock advisor, after Free Agent's Ascot Race Track victory.
Asked what the Queen had said to him afterwards, Hughes replied: "She was very gracious. To ride winners here is great, but to ride one for the Queen is special. He is a lovely horse, it's a very important winner."
"Richard [Hannon] did say to the Queen afterwards that he is in the [2009] Derby , but it will be one step at a time."
