Lochiel upsets at Collier Hill Cumberland Plate at Carlisle!
Lochiel staged an upset by capturing the Collier Hill Cumberland Plate at Carlisle Race Track on Wednesday.
Under the direction of jockey Neil Brown, Lochiel came from behind and defeated the favourite Hits Only Vic by ½ length.
Lochiel's victory at Carlisle Race Track came just about seven weeks after he provided trainer Sue Bradburne her first Flat victory in a Hamilton maiden. Bradburne has been a figure in the National Hunt scene and Lochiel's successes on Flat surfaces certainly bode well for her future in this arena.
Lochiel has been Bradburne's only Flat horse in training.
Bradburne had said that she would exactly say she was confident with Lochiel in his race at Carlisle Race Track but that she was slightly hopeful as she believed the conditions would suit him.
"Nothing went right in the race - he was flat to the boards and had his path blocked everywhere he went.
"I thought it was a lost cause but I knew he would come up the hill and like the ground and he has done it."
Neil Brown added: "He got into trouble coming up the hill but he is quirky and was loving passing horses."
The Collier Hill Cumberland Plate was first run in 1842.
