Goodwood Race Track is home to the yearly five-day Glorious Goodwood meeting, which is one of the highlights of the British flat racing calendar. Two of Britain's 31 Group One flat races, namely the Sussex Stakes and the Nassau Stakes, are components of the Glorious Goodwood.
The Duke of Richmond contols Goodwood Race Track and his seat is Goodwood House located very near the race track.

Goodwood Race Track has a rather unusual, complex track with a straight six furlongs - the so-called "Stewards' Cup Track" - which is uphill for the first furlong and mostly downhill thereafter.

There is a tight right-handed loop at the far end of the straight on which there are starts for various longer distance tracks. These include the 1 mile, 2 furlong "Craven Track"; the 1 mile, 4 furlong "Gratwicke Track"; and the 1 mile, 6 furlong "Bentinck Track".
