Desert Phantom captured the Fiona Stringer Maiden Stakes on Sunday at Haydock Park Race Track.
Desert Phantom is a newcomer out of stable of trainer David Simcock and his performance at Haydock Park Race Track has unleashed some talk about his long-term racing potentials.
Desert Phantom was the favourite in the Fiona Stringer and his performance on Sunday was something the fans obviously had expected. He was joint favourite with another newcomer, Striker Torres.
Under the direction of jockey Richard Mullen, Desert Phantom traveled in relaxed fashion throughout the race as he overtook everyone to win the Fiona Stringer. Olympic Dream came in second 2¾ lengths behind.
"He'd been working nicely at home but we never really ask them to do too much," said Mullen.
"David's two-year-olds have been in really good form so we had an idea that he would run well.
"He's a heavy-topped horse though so he appreciated the ground, he'll always need cut I think.
