In 1872, businessman S.H. Hyde leased the grounds of present-day Kempton Race Track when he came upon it through a leisurely carriage drive in the country.

In July 1878, Kempton Race Track opened.

In May 2005, Kempton Race Track closed due to major renovation and improvements.

In March 2006, Kempton Race Track reopened with a new all-weather course and floodlighting to facilitate racing in all conditions and at all light levels.
