Leicester Race Track Description
The Flat Course at Leicester Race Track is a right-handed, undulating oval measuring about 1 mile and 6 furlongs, with a 5 furlong run-in. High numbers have an advantage on this course. The flat course is known in some quarters as 'the Longchamp of the Midlands .' It slopes uphill for much of the 4½ furlong run-in and if the ground turns soft high numbers have a sizeable advantage in races on the straight course.
The National Hunt Course at Leicester Race Track is a right-handed, undulating affair, measuring 1 mile and 6 furlongs. The race track has tight turns at either end and can certainly provide a surprising test of stamina as runners climb gradually throughout the last three furlongs. Leicester Race Track has more hurdles in the home straight than steeplechase fences. The ground on the hurdles course (which is on the Flat track) is often very testing in the winter whilst that on the chase course can often be much less so.
Leicester Race Track has two enclosures: the Belvoir Stand and the Grandstand. The Belvoir Stand Enclosure allows access to the Grandstand all other facilities. It also has access to the Belvoir Bar, the Silks Bar and the restaurant in the main stand. The Grandstand Enclosure allows enclosure to the Winner's Enclosure and the Parade Ring for viewing. For food and drinks, there is the Ouorn Room Café.
The glass-fronted Grandstand (opened in 1997) provides viewers with panoramic views over 200 acres of the race track and Golf Estate.
