Warning Zone wins Sunset Breeders Cup Handicap!
Warning Zone won the Grade IIT, $156,000 Sunset Breeders Cup Handicap on Sunday at Hollywood Park race track. Warning Zone's triumph likewise closed out a successful spring/summer meeting at Hollywood Park race track for trainer John Sadler.
Under the direction of jockey Mike Smith, Warning Zone engaged in a stalking game at the middle of the pack during the early stages of the game. Boul d'Or seized the early lead and was tracked by Porfido, Storm Trooper and Transduction Gold through quarter-mile fractions of :25.29, :49.68 and 1:13.54. As Boul d'Or tired, Porfido got the lead briefly.
Smith then conjured Warning Zone into attack mode near the furlong marker and drove past the faltering Boule d'Or and Porfido as he registered the one-length victory at the Sunset Breeders Cup Handicap. The winning time was a not so great 2:26.95 over firm footing at Hollywood Park race track.
Heavy favorite Cedar Mountain came in second while Porfido was third. Warning Zone paid $10.80, $4 and $3.20 for his Sunset Breeders Cup Handicap triumph while Cedar Mountain returned $2.80 and $2.40. Porfido paid $3.60 to show.
Warning Zone earned $97,200 for win at Hollywood Park race track on its closing day as he ended a seven-race losing streak. He has so far banked $341,310 in his career.
Meanwhile, trainer Sadler, who was victorious in the 2007 Autumn meet training title at Hollywood Park race track as well, wound up with his 30 th victory at the stand. |
