Big Brown delivers robust workout for Haskell!
Big Brown is in the thick of preparations for his next foray into the race track – the $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park race track – and churned out an impressive workout at Aqueduct race track on Sunday. He registered :59 1/5 for his five-furlong run and his connections have confirmed that indeed, he is on target for the Monmouth Park race track extravaganza on the 3 rd of August.
The Aqueduct race track test run was his fourth work since his Belmont Stakes run. He ran with True Dancer, described as “a nice older horse”. Big Brown's gallop-out time was :13 1/5.
Big Brown will be having one more serious work next weekend, and may blow out a couple of days before the Haskell Invitational.
“He worked awesome,” IEAH co-president Michael Iavarone said. “Michelle (Nevin) broke him a length behind True Dancer. She said she drafted him in behind him True Dancer and he sat there nice and quiet. When she took him to the outside at the three-eighths pole he absolutely blew by the other horse, and she couldn't even pull him up after the work. We're over the moon. He's right on course and hasn't missed a beat. The 3 rd can't come soon enough.”
Owners IEAH Stables and Paul Pompa Jr., and trainer Richard Dutrow, will receive a bonus of $50,000 each for running Big Brown, according to the bonus structure announced last month, because he won two-thirds of the Triple Crown.
Officials of both Monmouth Park race track and the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority have already expressed elation that Big Brown's presence at the Haskell Invitational will greatly enhance the event. |
