Oklahoma's Pioneering Race Track!

Remington Park race track is a 370-acre horse race track and racino located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It is situated on the northeast side of the city and is in close proximity to many city attractions.

Remington Park race track typically hosts a quarter horse racing meet from March to June and a thoroughbred racing meet from August to December. In all, Remington Park race track offers a total of about 80 live racing days each year.

Remington Park race track holds the distinction of being the first legalized gambling venue in the state of Oklahoma, as well as the first race track in the United States to use a synthetic surface for its main track. This surface, called Equitrack, was not met with satisfactory reviews and the race track reverted to the original dirt material.

• Remington Park race track features two tracks that hold thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. Night racing is now permitted at Remington Park race track.

• It has a one-mile dirt track and a 7/8-mile turf course.

• The homestretch length of the dirt track is 1,025 feet.

Remington Park Race Track History

• In 1988, Remington Park race track was built, becoming the first such race track in the state's history. It was built by Edward J. DeBartolo Sr., the shopping mall developer who also built Thistledown and Louisiana Downs.

• Remington was the first (and only) American track to use Equitrack, which utilized grains of sand coated with wax. Equitrack was to have provided a safe all-weather racing surface that would reduce life-threatening injuries to horses and jockeys.

• In 1991, Remington Park race track reverted to a traditional dirt surface after horsemen complained that Oklahoma 's summer heat melted the wax.

• Currently, Remington Park race track is owned by Magna Entertainment Corporation.
